These Fish Hooks are carved from the crown at the base of the antler. Antler is a very unique type of bone with a beautiful range of subtle natural colours and an interesting texture which makes it look and feel almost identical to whale bone.

These carvings feature stunning artistry and skill for a true 3D masterpiece. These carvings are designed to be worn but also make stunning display pieces when mounted in their crown.

Traditionally, Maori Fish Hook carvings (Hei-Matau) represent prosperity,abundance, fertility and strength. They are also seen as good luck charms, particularly for those traveling over water. Hei-Matau are symbols of power and authority which are held in great reverence by the Maori people.

All carvings are supplied complete with a traditional style cord & bag. Cords are hand made from black waxed braid with a loop and bone toggle fitted. A woven flax presentation case and information on the meaning of the design is also included.
