Beautiful New Zealand Flower Jade Toki hand carved by Ross Crump for us.
This is a wonderful carving of the revered Māori adze. This pendant has the most delightful mix of colours: mint tones, splashes of gold, black speckles - it's a beauty!
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. In pre-iron age times it was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. In early Aotearoa/New Zealand, the adze was used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve Alliance came from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island. It was been created in the alpine fault and was shaped and given further character in our alpine rivers.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
