NEW ARRIVAL
VOLCANIC - a glorious Waimea Creek Pounamu Toki.
This is a beautifully carved piece that looks a little like the area the jade came from. It has wonderful colour variation down the length of the toki - deep, deep green at the head, through a paler milky mint at the bottom. We have bound it in a special NZP Black with Pohutukawa red combo cord and Pohutukawa Red binding - this is a one only piece :)
Waimea pounamu comes from a small creek just North of Hokitika on the West Coast of New Zealand. It is remote and wild and, like all the West Coast, very beautiful. This piece is a wonderful reflection of the place the stone was born.
The pendant is suspended with a unique Pohutukawa Red binding and handplaited adjustable cord. If you don't feel brave enough for this statement colour - please let us know in the comments section at checkout what cord and binding colour you would prefer :)
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We have one only, and this piece will be removed from our site when sold. We will also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
