Carved from stunning black Australian jade - these are a gorgeous deep, jet black and make a very attractive pendant.

As an adornment, matau is said to bring prosperity, abundance, good health and power. They are believed to lend authority to the wearer. Matau are worn as a talisman to provide protection and safety when travelling over water.

The fish hook played an important role in the lives of early Polynesian cultures as it provided the means to catch fish - a staple and important part of their diet. A good fish hook was something of real value. These values are still considered inherent in these carved representations.

We can provide this pendant on a hand-plaited cord or with a 55cm sterling silver chain. Select your preference with the drop down box.
