MAVERICK - unorthodox, independent
Flower Jade Toki carved by Ross Crump.
This is a smaller unisex piece, carved with clean, simple lines and traditionally lashed. This toki is a beautiful representation of the revered māori adze.
The flower jade used for this piece is becoming increasingly difficult to find, so each piece is unique and very special. The jade used for this piece is a deep green at the top and mottled, minty green shades through the body to the blade.
We have used a plain black cord to let the colours in the stone come to the fore. When you have a piece of jade as lovely as this is, it's best to let the stone do the talking!
This is a beautiful, medium sized piece of handmade jewellery.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
This jade comes from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island. It has been created in the alpine fault under extreme pressure and has been worked over in a fast flowing, steep river.
These pendants are traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We will ship this beautiful pendant to you with DHL Express Courier, with a hand plaited and adjustable cord.
Also included, one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
