KAIMANAWA is a large and visually striking piece. It is a wonderful mix of art with foundations in traditional design, carved in a richly coloured and varied New Zealand pounamu.
KAIMANAWA is carved from a stunning piece of jade that came from Fiordland in our South Island's South Westland. We are delighted to have a piece of this quality to offer you.
The front face of this piece is carved with a moko design. Moko are Māori tattoo designs on the face or the body which are created under traditional Māori protocols. They are important symbols of Māori identity and are significant and important to those with them. The carving on this piece pays tribute to this wonderful tradition.
KAIMANAWA was carved to represent mauri: life force or essence - and mana: pride.
It is a piece carved from a special material and has an important meaning. This is a piece of carved art that is designed to be worn with pride.
