MALTE BRUN - an imposing alpine peak which tops out at just under 3,200m. A stark, imposing and beautiful alpine rock in our Southern Alpine Range - this piece is deserving of the name!
Named after MALTE BRUN a a beautiful New Zealand Flower Jade Toki - hand carved for us by Ross Crump. The photos, and the video, reveal the beauty of this pendant. We've bound this piece with a hand plaited cord in Burnt Gold and Khaki colours. These pick up the tones in the stone and complement its unique colouring.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve this stunning Toki came from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island, from the Marsden valley. It was been created in the alpine fault and was shaped and given further character in our alpine rivers.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
