ALPINE FLOWER - a hand carved, medium-sized jade toki. This is a lovely little piece that reflects the visual diversity found in New Zealand nephrite jade.
This toki is a little reflection of the area the stone comes from. A remote part of New Zealand on our West Coast. The alpine landscape is rugged and beautiful, the colour coming from the hardy plants and the occasional flowering ALPINE FLOWER. This stone is a lovely reflection of this beauty.
A little background on the TOKI:
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We have one only, and this piece will be removed from our site when sold. We will also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
