MOA - Moa Bone suspended in epoxy resin.
Check out MOA - a fantastic piece of art, carved by a wonderfully creative artist and very talented carver - Sami. We are delighted to have a few pieces of his work available for sale.
MOA is a beautiful contemporary pendant. Sami has carved a small piece of Moa bone into a lovely woven form, and then suspended it in a clear resin. This preserves the bone and highlights its grain and colour. This is a small, wonderfully expressive piece of art to wear. It is provided with an adjustable cord so it can be worn as a pendant.
Moa were large, flightless birds endemic to New Zealand - they are now extinct. Māori hunted moa for their meat and they used the rest of the bird as a resource, fashioning their feathers and skins into clothing, and their bones into needles and fish hooks.
UNIQUE AND RARE
Moa bones are found from time to time, often in swampland, and when they find their way into the hands of skilled carvers they can produce some gorgeous jewellery. This is a wonderful example of this - a beautiful piece, carved with a great deal of care and thought.
