This little piece is a great example of creative and artistic carving. Fumio has used a piece of deer antler to its very best effect here. He has utilised the variation of the antler to create a very lifelike representation of a sea-weathered pāua shell - inside he has lined the antler with a polished piece of shell. The overall effect is a wonderful rendition of this hardy, monovalve mollusc!
