PŪMANAWA - BEATING HEART
PŪMANAWA is one of a series of toki that we commissioned from Andrew. These are beautifully carved, thoughtful pieces that capture concepts that are important to us. The materials used are beautiful and significant for a multitude of reasons, in our corner of the world.
PŪMANAWA - is a medium sized and beautifully carved traditional Adze/Toki. Carved for us by Andrew Doughty, one of our favourite bone carvers and artists. The quality of the craftsmanship is superb, second to none - a gorgeous piece of handcrafted jewellery!
This is a beautiful piece, carved with a great deal of care and thought. Andrew describes the ethos behind his design in some detail and we will supply this description with the carving. Briefly it's meaning is as follows...
PŪMANAWA - contains a kowhaiwhai pattern that arises from the bottom of the taonga. This represents the growth of love and life.
On the front there is a special inlay of pāua shell. This symbolises the heart of our being.
On the back there is a spiral. In this instance it represents the unfolding universe and our own centre of being within this space.
This Taonga has been registered in Andrew's database and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
A fantastic toki, meaningful, beautifully carved and deserving of a home for generations.
We provide this piece with a note from the artist to the holder of this carving.
Also included, on of our Kia Ora cards which explain a little behind the Toki design.
