Carved from an exceptional piece of New Zealand Inanga Pounamu by artist and carver - Rueben Tipene. RANGATIRA is a Niho/Matau shape with very strong lines and clearly defined edges. The front face has a subtle, finely etched koru - unique and strong this is a very beautiful piece.

The symbolic importance of the matau, or hook pendant, is widely recognized throughout the South Pacific, where it stands for life, health, and success. Its reverence is rooted in fishing's crucial role in providing nutrition and stability to island populations. Possession of an excellent hook was an indication of one's respectability and societal standing.
RANGATIRA is provided with a fixed length black cord and Jade toggle.
