COMPANION - a new design of a traditional shape - the KORU.
A stunning hand carved New Zealand Jade Koru pendant representing new life - rebirth. We love this piece, it's such a positive design and signifies the hope that we carry into the future. Traditionally the koru was carved to capture an image of a young fern shoot. These are very soft, fragile growths that burgeon into hardy fern fronds. So this gently shaped pendant represents something that is forward looking, positive, gentle but also tough and resilient.
The koru is associated with nurturing so is frequently used as a symbol of love within whānau (family).
Jade carvings by New Zealand Māori are some of the most beautiful wearable art works available today and are traditional artifacts in miniature form.
The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’. The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.
