We are delighted to have this piece to offer. TINY DANCER is an exquisite piece of jewellery. Traditionally these were carved as Sashi Netsuke, little ornamental clips made to hold the sash of a kimono nice and secure.
The attention to detail in TINY DANCER speaks to the creative skill of the artist - Fumio Noguchi. He has hand made this piece from Deer Antler with tiny Goat Horn eyes. An added touch, Fumio has carved his signature on the back in Japanese script. Look closely and you will see one little toe of the TINY DANCER appearing on the underside of the leaf.
Netsuke were designed and developed in Japan as a fixture to attach items to the sash of a kimono. They have been developed as highly detailed, hand carved toggles which have both a practical and aesthetic purpose. Kimono traditionally do not have pockets, so netsuke were used to attach things that were needed to the sash - like tobacco pouches, purses etc.
The craftsmanship here is of the highest standard - zoom in and look closely at the minute detail and care that has been taken to create this little masterpiece.
