NGARU - wave
A finely-carved Matau (hook) crafted from New Zealand pounamu. This pendant is carved from a gorgeous green jade - it is a beautiful marsden stone, mysterious and just a little foreboding!
Ross has completed this with a polished finish - it makes for a light-catching piece and is silky smooth to wear.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DESIGN...
The matau, or hook pendant is revered throughout the South Pacific as a symbol for life, well-being and prosperity. Its significance arises from the key role that fishing has played in sustaining island families and communities. The owner of a good hook was respected and held a place of authority in the community.
We will ship this pendant to you with Express Courier on a hand plaited adjustable cord.
