PEKAPEKA
In stock
A gorgeous, unique, bone pekapeka pendant.
PEKAPEKA is made from beautiful, natural Bone with striking eyes made from a wonderful New Zealand Pāua - renowned for its brightness and striking colours.
We have two of these available - both medium sized, double Manaia pendant hand carved by Yuri Terenyi. This piece is carved from cow bone - the design has two manaia connected with a shared body.
These designs are called PEKAPEKA - named after a native New Zealand bat, a tiny creature that flies at night and holds quite some spiritual significance. Māori legend believes these bats are a physical manifestation of the mythical, night-flying bird - the Hokioi.
The Manaia: a mythical being believed to be the invisible light, or aura, surrounding a person. They represent spiritual power and are believed to be the guide that leads the spirits to heaven. They are worn to guide and protect.
Look at the photos and definitely check out the very brief video which shows it slowly revolving. This reveals the beauty of this piece - it's shape and the wonderful texture of the material - and the very small details that Yuri's work is renowned for.
We provide this with a hand-plaited Black or Grey cord, which is adjustable - a very cool pendant carved by Yuri Terenyi.
A wonderful gift for someone important to you (or as a special gift for yourself).
Shipped on a hand plaited, adjustable cord and we also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the manaia design.
