RUA - carved from New Zealand Jade, we have two of these gorgeous toki. One is polished and has a subtle, rounded finish, the other is a satin matte and the edges are a little squarer.... both are beautiful!
The artist, Kerry Thompson, has created a design that represents two people coming together, working to create a strong and enduring relationship. The stone is a beautiful variegated green flower jade, which shimmers and glows when the light passes across and through it.
RUA is a large Toki hand carved and polished to produce the best effect for the stone used. One piece has been carved with stronger lines - clear edges and a satin matte polish to provide a slight softening effect. The other is polished - this finish produces strong definition and beautifully promotes the stone's colours. To take the edge off this, Kerry has softened the edges, they are gently rounded producing a less edgy piece in the hand.
PLEASE NOTE: the polished piece is slightly smaller - measurements of both pieces are noted below.

A little about the toki design...
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful ....and this is a good one!
These beautiful Toki have two Koru carved through the blade - these symbolise fresh beginnings, a new start - a perfect pendant for someone taking on new challenges perhaps, or needing a little courage and a positive outlook for their future.
The video shows both pieces, one after another, revolving. You can see the contrasting finishes and the slight variation in the edge shapes.
Traditionally, the toki is worn to provide strength and courage to assist through life's challenges, and the koru is a symbol of rebirth, growth and new beginnings.
