NEW ARTIST: KERRY THOMPSON
TĀWHIRIMĀTEA - named after the God of weather... whatever weather you're facing in your life, rain or sunshine, TĀWHIRIMĀTEA will be by your side sheltering and guiding you.
This Koru is a large pendant carved from a wonderfully consistent piece of dark green Siberian Jade. Beautifully carved, TĀWHIRIMĀTEA is a great example of the two great skills required to produce beautiful jade art - an artistic vision for the stone and carving mastery - Kerry has both which is very evident in this piece. The carved face on the outer edge is exquisite, very traditional and quite imposing.
The varied polish finish is also standout! A mix of high shine and dull matte really accentuates the carving and adds to the mystique of the story this piece tells.
When held to the light the face becomes semi-translucent so it glows and highlights Kerry's artistry to perfection.
TĀWHIRIMĀTEA is provided with a fixed length cord and Jade toggle. If you would like a different coloured, or an adjustable cord - please let us know in the comments section at checkout.
The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’. The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.
Take a look at the video and you will appreciate the artistry of this beautiful piece.
