KŌKIRI - Continue to advance
Carved from New Zealand Argillite by Rueben Tipene
A spectacular piece of stone - a wonderful carving!
KŌKIRI is a large and expressive Toki. A beautiful dark grey argillite stone, carved and polished to reveal the beautiful and varied structure in this wonderful material.
We've hand plaited a cord in black and cosmos grey to pick up and highlight the beautiful colours in the stone.
The kowhaiwhai design has been gently etched into the face of the toki. It is subtle to the extent that in some lights the design is barely visible. Other angles bring the design to the fore - it is this subtle detail that makes this such an impressive piece! kowhaiwhai patterns were traditionally carved into beams and poles in marae and meeting houses, representing the mana of the building, its ancestors and people.
Carved with Rueben's exceptional skill, this is a faultless carving.
KŌKIRI is a carved artwork made to be worn. The finish is a polished matte. This is a beautiful toki and will make a fantastic and memorable gift.
We have made a video which slows this piece slowly revolving. Take a moment to watch this, it reveals the beautiful design and the precise carving.
Traditionally, the toki is worn to provide strength and courage to assist through life's challenges.
We include our 'Kia Ora' card explaining the meaning behind the Toki design.
Delivery to you with Express Courier is included in the price.
