OSHUN is a deity of the Yaruba people in South Western Nigeria. This Goddess is associated with water, fertility, purity, love and sensuality.
This is a combination of two ancient and iconic symbols, the curvaceous female and the Tree of Life.
The depiction of the female form dates back to Venus and the Palaeolithic Period. Feminine characteristics were given special prominence, the strong emphasis on the anatomical zones that relate to bearing and nourishing of children, that convey the idea of female fertility.
The Tree of Life, is often seen as a symbol of eternal life and a representation of the cycle of life. In Islam The Tree of Life is used as a symbol for the code of life - "the tree of immortality". In Judaism and Christianity it is described in the book of Genesis as being The Tree of Knowledge in The Garden of Eden. It is also associated with the connection between earth and heaven and the after life.
OSHUN and the TREE OF LIFE can be worn as a symbol of fertility, of eternal life and the afterlife. It can also just be worn because it is a wonderfully tactile piece that looks fabulous and feels marvellous in the hand!
We ship OSHUN to you on a hand plaited, adjustable, Maui Navy Blue and Paradise Blue cord, lovingly packaged in a kete pouch.
