Visually beautiful, wonderful to hold and wear... this beautifully bound Toki is carved from Australian black jade - a spectacular and deep black.
PLEASE NOTE: The pieces pictured are the pieces that we have available. Some have pale mineral inclusions that appear as whitish striations in the jade. This is not a fault, it is a natural part of the jade in the given piece - we love them! They add a lot of character - just want to point them out to you all!
As an adornment, the Toki, or Adze, is said to bring courage and strength in times of adversity. It is a symbol of courage and strength in times of adversity and is often worn by Maori elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.
Maori believe that carvings carry the spirit of those who wear them, becoming an important family Taonga (treasure) passed on to future generations of the family as an heirloom.
Included with one of our 'Kia Ora' card explaining the meaning behind the Toki design.
We have these in two binding colours (they are all hand plaited and adjustable cords) - please use the drop down box to select the colour you would like.
