FLIGHT OF THE RURU
Wow! What a striking, creative and complex piece - you'll need to take a close up look to really appreciate this carving. FLIGHT OF THE RURU typifies what we love about Kyohei's work - a creative take on a traditional design, beautifully carved!
FLIGHT OF THE RURU is a carved representation of the möbius strip - discovered by German mathematicians August Möbius and Johann Listing in 1858. These are a difficult shape to carve and Kyohei has added another layer to one side, increasing the complexity and adding a visual dimension that sets this piece apart.
The principle of this ribbon is that it has only one side and one boundary, it is non-orientable.
These carvings represent the many paths followed in life and love and are regarded as an eternity symbol.
Take a moment to view the video - this shows the fine carving and the subtle turns that are central to this very clever design.
Kyohei has finished FLIGHT OF THE RURU in a soft matte polish, it glows but doesn't reflect and will take on a beautiful colour over time with wear.
