HUIA CALL
The Huia Bird is an extinct legend of New Zealand's bush. Once renowned for its beauty and wonderful song, Māori regarded the Huia as tapu - sacred - and only people of high status were allowed to wear its feathers or skin. Sadly, these birds no longer grace our forests, but from time to time a carver remembers them, and pays tribute through their art.
Fumio has done just that with HUIA CALL. He has crafted a piece that is simply beautiful. Carved from a piece of deer antler tine, HUIA CALL is a slender, curved form that beautifully replicates the beak of a female bird. This piece can be worn as a pendant, but in our view would also make a beautiful sculptural piece.
The material used for this carving is New Zealand Red Deer antler tine, from the hardest part of the antler, so it is extremely tough and will stand wear very well if you choose to make it a pendant you wear daily.
Watch the brief video to appreciate the 3-dimensional character of Fumio's carving.
A beautiful and original piece of carved art. A piece for collectors - carved and signed by Fumio Noguchi.
