Recently Tony, a partner in NZ Pacific and our Uncle and Brother-in-Law (this is a family business after all), travelled to Myanmar to take a look at the different jades and other materials available up in that part of the world. He found this wonderful deep, coppery brown amber and brought it back to NZ.
We've made a few pendants from this fascinating material - IGNITION is one of them!
This material has been used by the Chinese to make jewellery since around 200BCE. They believe that it is a symbol of courage and bravery and that it contains the soul of a tiger.
Burmite is a resin which has been formed during periods when mountains have been forced upward - the resultant high pressure and temperatures alter the structure of the resin and create the fascinating internal fractures and waves. These are not faults, rather a reflection of the process that has created this gorgeous material.
This particular piece is a beautiful, hand carved Amber drop pendant. It has captured a couple of little leaves that may have come from the tree the gum came from. A unique pendant with curves that make this piece extra special - and who doesn't love curves!
