KAHIKATEA - work hard
Hand carved by Ross Crump - a medium to large sized manaia pendant. The jade is a very dark green Marsden with a few whispy light inclusions - you can see these in the photos and in the video.
KAHIKATEA looks fantastic from both sides - there is quite a distinct difference in the look of the jade from front to back.
To appreciate the design, take a moment to watch the short video. This shows the piece slowly rotating and will give you a clear view of the shape and the colour of the jade.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE DESIGN ELEMENTS...
The Manaia: a mythical being believed to be the invisible light, or aura, surrounding a person. They represent spiritual power and are believed to be the guide that leads the spirits to heaven. They are worn to guide and protect.
The matau, or hook pendant is revered throughout the South Pacific as a symbol for life, well-being and prosperity. Its significance arises from the key role that fishing has played in sustaining island families and communities. The owner of a good hook was respected and held a place of authority in the community.
We will provide this pendant with a Kaki Green plaited cord which is length adjustable.
We will also include our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Manaia and Hook design.
Delivery with Express Courier is included in the price.
