WHEKU - a magnificent Wheku pendant, carved in Pounamu

A significant taonga, this large-sized pendant is sculpted from a dark-hued block of pounamu. Its lustrous surface pulls the viewer's focus toward the fine carving that runs along the forehead and encircles the mouth. Turned under light, the stone highlights the refined shaping of the facial features, while the pāua inlays create an intensely formidable and unwavering gaze.

The Wheku represents an ancestral face, symbolising wisdom, strength and connection to tīpuna (ancestors). A powerful taonga for protection and guidance.

This is a beautiful piece, carved with a great deal of care and thought.

The materials used are New Zealand Pounamu (Jade) and Pāua Shell.

WHEKU is provided with a Wapiti Brown/Khaki adjustable cord and lovingly packaged in a woven kete pouch.
