Gorgeous, stylised Hammerhead Sharks!
We've added another hammerhead to our collection, and it's a beauty! This piece is carved from Alaskan Woolly Mammoth Tusk - over 10,000 year old material that has found a new expression in this beautiful pendant. Take a look at the photos - you can see the dinstinctive grain and beautiful golden tones that is unique to this material.
We had our mammoth material carbon dated to get an accurate measure of its age. The testing was done for us by GNS Science, a New Zealand Crown Research Institute and New Zealand's leading provider of Earth, geoscience and isotope research - so their assessment of this material is as accurate as is possible using radiocarbon dating technology.
We've design this with just the right amount of detail to capture the sinuous grace of these awesome sharks. Check out the video.
The ocean has always been the dominant force for the people of the South Pacific. They traveled huge distances in their long canoes and lived on the bounty of the tropical waters. They had a great respect for the animals of the sea. Today the ocean remains central to the lives of many people in our corner of the world, who use it as an important source of seafood and shellfish (kaimoana).
Ocean themed jewelry is popular among Scuba divers and marine enthusiasts, and this piece is a beauty!
