LONG ISLAND
A beautiful medium sized Toki pendant hand carved by Darren Hill. This toki has a beautiful shape and the Jade Darren has used is a lovely dark green with a slight semi-translucent bottom tip.
Take a moment to watch the brief video - it shows the piece revolving and will give you a good idea of the form and colour of this pendant.
Like all Darren's work, this piece is beautifully finished - it is silky, soft in the hand - and it looks fantastic with its soft matte polish.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve this stunning Toki came from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island, from the Marsden valley. It was been created in the alpine fault and was shaped and given further character in our alpine rivers.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
Delivery with DHL Express Courier is included in the price.
