RAINSHOWER
This Jade Toki was carved for us by Ross Crump. We've named it RAINSHOWER - the colours in the Pounamu are soft greens, and greys, the colours of misty rain in a bush clad gully.
Carved with clean, simple lines and traditionally lashed, this is a beautiful representation of the revered māori adze.
We have bound this with a Silver Grey cord and a Silver/Ice White double binding at the head of the toki. A very striking piece!
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve these pieces comes from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island. It has been created in the alpine fault and has worked its way down an alpine river - created under extreme pressure and worked over in a fast flowing, steep river. These are tough little pieces with a lot of history!
These pendants are traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We will ship this beautiful pendant to you with DHL Express Courier, bound in a hand plaited adjustable cord. We will also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
