EYE OF THE HUIA
The Huia Bird is an extinct legend of New Zealand's bush. Once renowned for its beauty and wonderful song, Māori regarded the Huia as tapu - sacred - and only people of high status were allowed to wear its feathers or skin. Sadly, these birds no longer grace our forests, but from time to time a carver remembers them, and pays tribute through their art.
Sami has done just that with EYE OF THE HUIA. He has crafted a piece that is simply beautiful. Carved from whale bone, EYE OF THE HUIA is a slender, curved form that beautifully replicates the beak of a female bird. This piece can be worn as a pendant, but in our view would also make a beautiful sculptural piece.
The material used for this carving is whale bone, so it is extremely tough and will stand wear very well if you choose to make it a pendant you wear daily.

A beautiful and original piece of carved art. A piece for collectors - carved by Sami.
