THE OTHER SIDE
In stock
THE OTHER SIDE is a beautiful New Zealand Auhunga Jade Toki hand carved by Ross Crump for us. THE OTHER SIDE of this Toki has inclusions of aquamarine colours which make this piece unique and extra special.
The pale minty greens colours in the bottom of the toki coalesce with the deeper green through the body beautifully. It is a smaller piece, slender and really quite elegant so it can be worn by anyone who likes beautiful jade and the toki design.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve this stunning Toki came from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island, from the Marsden valley. It was created in the alpine fault and was shaped and given further character in our alpine rivers.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
