Triton - Messenger of the Sea
The seahorse, or Hippocampus, has a long held a place in mythology and can be seen on coins and other ancient artefacts as early as the 6th century BC. Poseidon, the god of horses, earthquakes and the sea was often depicted driving a chariot drawn by seahorses so they became symbolic of strength and power.
This seahorse pendant is carved with the traditionally shaped head of a horse and fan on the back. We have added a central koru shape and the tail also curls in a koru form.
We will provide this with a hand-plaited, waxed cord which is length adjustable so that you can position the pendant where it suits you best.
Please use the drop-down menu to select the cord colour that you would like.
Also included, one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Koru design you see in the tail.
Please note: every pendant is hand carved from natural bone. We don't whiten the bone, so there are differences in the colour of each piece.
