ARCHIMEDES - hand carved bone owl with jade toki pendant

This piece is named for the wise owl who accompanied Merlin through the legends of Arthur - a creature of quiet observation, keeper of ancient knowledge, witness to the pulling of swords from stones.

We decided to transform ARCHIMEDES from myth into tangible form. An owl in full flight, carved from creamy bone, sweeping forward with wings spread, every contour of the bird captured in detail. At its back rests a toki, carved from green Aceh jade, its form deliberately simple. This contrast is intentional and striking: the complex, living energy of the owl against the calm, grounded strength of the adze. The bird carries the toki as though bearing an offering or, maybe, a secret.

Have a look at the video and you will see the variability of colours in this marvellous piece. The toki is hand bound with a waxed cord and the neck cord is hand plaited and is adjustable. It has a couple of slip knots so that you can position the pendant where it suits you best.

ARCHIMEDES is lovingly packaged in a woven kete pouch and provided with our 'Kia Ora' card which has a little information about the Toki design.
