GROUNDED CENTRE – Hand Made in New Zealand Tangiwai, this Wonderful Toki Pendant was Carved by Kerry Thompson

This is a lovely, medium-sized, symbolic toki with a special touch! 

Kerry has carved a series of nested triangles carved into its face, using polish to establish a contrast. There are four large triangles comprised of four smaller triangles - three matte and one polished. Subtle, tactile and unexpected, this detailing adds a modern touch to a traditional design.

The stone is a dense, deep green tangiwai pounamu with naturally occurring silver flecks scattered through the stone. The silver flecks are iron minerals included when the stone formed. These natural variations lend the piece a sense of depth and character.

Carved with Kerry's exceptional attention to detail, this is a faultless carving.

GROUNDED CENTRE is a carved artwork that we think will be passed down through generations - and become a very meaningful heirloom.

Tangiwai is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, 'tears of sorrow'. It is the perfect stone for this marvellous pendant.

The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful ....and this is a good one!

Traditionally, the toki is worn to provide strength and courage to assist through life's challenges.
