KŌMORI BAT - art made to wear and display....

A spectacular piece of wearable art for all BAT lovers! A magnificent carving, hand crafted from the tine of Red Deer antler.

A description of this piece by the artist, Fumio Noguchi:

This Bat is called “kōmori” in Japanese, and this term also means “Umbrella”.

That is why I shaped the Bat with an Umbrella shape.

The End of the wings (near its tail) are designed in a traditional Japanese cloud shape.

It’s wearable as a Necklace and is suspended with a camel cord from its curled tail.

The bat is traditionally very popular for painting, carving, metal work etc… because Japanese believe it is a symbol of happiness and brings you good fortune.

Carved from deer antler, buffalo horn inlayed for eyes.

The antler is dense and hard, it has been beautifully carved, creating a memorable little work of art!
