HAKA - a traditional Māori tiki pendant, hand carved for us by Yuri Terenyi. This work of art is a collectable piece of traditional bone carving. It can be worn as a special piece of jewellery or displayed.

The haka is generally thought of as a dance of war - as a challenge to opposition before battle. In fact, in pre-European times the haka was a dance, usually with song, that was a part of a formal greeting process when two parties came together. It was a formal ritual performed by the the welcoming party and responded to by the guests before any formal meeting took place.
Today the haka is perhaps best known as the challenge that our National Rugby team. the All Blacks, performs before each game. In all cases it is a significant tradition for New Zealanders.
Māori believe that carvings carry the spirit of those who wear them, becoming an important family Taonga (treasure) passed on to future generations of the family as an heirloom. This piece certainly epitomises this.
