ANCHOR AND ASPIRE is a gorgeous weighty matau, a contemporary pendant carved from a beautiful piece of New Zealand greenstone.

Comprising manaia and matau designs, this is a glorious carving - perfect if you are looking for something traditional, but with a contemporary flair. This is great creative carving, exploring and combining traditional designs that carries the carved art form forward.

ANCHOR AND ASPIRE has been polished to a soft matte glow - perfect for this particular piece of jade. This finish highlights the changes in structure and colours in the stone.

The matau, or hook pendant is revered throughout the South Pacific as a symbol for life, well-being and prosperity. Its significance arises from the key role that fishing has played in sustaining island families and communities. The owner of a good hook was respected and held a place of authority in the community.
