IN THE GROOVE

Toki - carved by Ric Moor. This piece is a fine example of top quality carving and great design!

IN THE GROOVE is a great example of Ric's craftsmanship. It is a medium-sized piece and is a real beauty! It is carved from a really lovely piece of New Zealand Marsden Jade - the stone is a very dark green, approaching black.

Have a look at the video we have taken showing IN THE GROOVE slowly rotating. It has a subtle and beautiful form. The grooves are beautifully carved and the whole piece has been finished with a technique that Ric has perfected to give his stone a soft, silky matte finish - this is a very cool piece of jewellery.

Ric has been carving, and teaching carving, here in New Zealand for years. He is a highly skilled carver and a great jade artist. His work can be found in galleries and museums in New Zealand, and now right here with us!

THE TOKI - it's history and meaning...

The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.

The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.

This is a one-off piece and will make someone very happy!

We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
