COURTSHIP - a handcarved, engraved Bone Flute. Play the music of love....
This Māori flute is called a Kōauau. These are carved tubes, traditionally made from bone or wood, and open at both ends. They are usually somewhere between 10 and 20cm long (4 - 8 inches) and have between three and six finger holes drilled through the bore - this one has three holes. This causes the air to swirl inside the flute producing a soft, haunting sound.
We have taken a short video of this piece rotating so please take a look to view the beauty of this piece in 3D.
COURTSHIP is carved from natural bone and has been stained with a homemade dye. It is a decorative, display piece but functions and could be worn as a necklace. If you would like it as a necklace let us know and we will plait and attach a cord for you.
We have a second, and similar, Kōauau which you can view here: FAMILY TIES
