Kerry has used a phenomenal piece of New Zealand Jade for this beautiful Koru. It is a wonderful piece, beautifully rendered to form one of the loveliest koru that we have seen. This is a taonga that will stay with you for a lifetime. It is absolutely beautiful!
KORU TAONGA is a carved representation of a young fern frond - a native bush plant that sends out young growth in the shape off the koru.
Kerry carves these pieces to symbolise, and reflect on, the journey through life. The mixed fortunes, the challenges and the paths we take to confront and manage them. Like the koru's spiral shape, life's pathway is rarely straight. It takes us on a path of discovery and challenge - and it should be filled with promise of renewal and growth.
Watch the video to enjoy the shape and colour nuances in this piece - it is beautiful and the stone will adapt and improve over time and with wear. That is the beauty of jade - it just gets better and better!
KORU TAONGA is provided with a stand-out hand plaited (by us) adjustable cord.
The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’. The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.
The shape is streamlined, gloriously curved and quite unique. Take a look at the video and you will appreciate the artistry of this beautiful piece.
