PLUTO - a shield pendant carved in stunning New Zealand Inanga jade.
The beauty in this piece is the remarkable colour of the jade, and the fascinating pitting on both sides of the piece. These have occurred as a result of the mineral environment the jade was formed in. I think it is an indication of the heat, pressure and minerals that combined, have produced this wonderful stone.
The colour is spectacular - a wonderful, light blue coloured Inanga that tells its own story. Alex has used the jade to its' best effect, carving a pendant that looks refined and raw at the same time. He has left the pits and faults in the stone and polished the faces to a high shine - it catches the light and really stamps its presence - a fabulous piece of natural jewellery!
