STELLAR IRIS - Hand Crafted Japanese White Mabe Pearl with Paua and Sterling Silver Pendant. Glamorous, Mysterious and Magnificent Art to Wear!

This pendant is a fascinating creation by Swiss jeweller Michel Girardin, crafted from New Zealand pāua shell, a Japanese white mabe pearl, and sterling silver.

The shell is cut into an organic, pāua-shaped form - flowing and irregular, echoing the natural shape of this shellfish. A white pearl is centred on its outside face within a plain silver ring, providing a great contrast in colour and shape.

The chain finding is a significant part of the design. Handmade in a shape that echoes the pāua, it is rotated through 90 degrees, creating a wonderful duality between the shell and the silver. The two forms mirror one another, but sit at different angles - a subtle visual tension that makes the piece so interesting. The silver finding is finely etched with a nest-like pattern, adding texture and intricacy.

Michel comes from a Swiss family of jewellers and trained at La Chaux-de-Fonds Art School. That heritage is evident in the thoughtful composition and the immaculate finishing.

The result is a gorgeous and unique piece of jewellery - sculptural, balanced, and beautifully made.
