FRIEND OF MINE
FRIEND OF MINE is carved from bone and stained with a homemade dye that Yuri makes and uses to colour the bone. The manaia eyes are made from local Pāua shell - a beautiful fluorescent blue/green colour.
This piece is a work of art - it depicts two reversed manaia, intertwined, individual and inextricably joined. Watch the video to appreciate the intricate design and the exceptional craftsmanship.
Māori believe that carvings carry the spirit of those who wear them, becoming an important family Taonga (treasure) passed on to future generations of the family as an heirloom.
The manaia is believed to be the holder of great spiritual energy and is a guardian against evil.
Delivered to you on a Black cord, which is adjustable in length.
We will also include our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Manaia and twist design.
