KOROWAI - Cloak
Carved from New Zealand Argillite
KOROWAI is a slender, styled toki, contemporary and very, very sharp! Designed and carved by Rueben TIpene. The stone is a palish grey coloured piece of argillite and beautifully polished.
Carved with Rueben's exceptional attention to detail, this is a faultless carving. The design is a little reminiscent of a carved pillar - the central channel captures the eye and gives this slender carving a grace and sense of power that seems to be greater than the scale of the piece.
KOROWAI is a carved artwork that we think will be passed down through generations - a very meaningful heirloom.
We think this would make a stand out gift for someone who leads with integrity and pride.
We have made a video which shows this piece slowly revolving. Take a moment to watch this, it reveals the precision required to deliver a design that reflects strength and visual impact.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, highly valued for the roles it played in construction and defence. The smaller carved design is really a homage to the importance of this tool.
Traditionally, the toki is worn to provide strength and courage to assist through life's challenges. KOROWAI is a worthy piece in this respect.
This piece is provided on a plaited Tan adjustable length cord
We include our 'Kia Ora' card explaining the meaning behind the Toki design.
