KŌWHAI - Hand Carved Woolly Mammoth Tusk Kōwhai Pendants
KŌWHAI - we're paying homage to our beautiful bright yellow native flower - Kōwhai is the Māori word for yellow, and when they fall they leave a carpet of gold (our driveway gets covered in these lovely flowers)!
This piece holds a special place in our hearts. I remember every year my father would bring a sprig of the first kōwhai blooms home from the farm, to mark the start of spring.
Take a look at the video - it shows the carving slowly revolving - this is a gorgeous piece carved in 3D.
A beautiful, stylised pendant for those who love flowers. Hand carved from mammoth tusk, these wonderful pendants evoke the freedom of nature.
The Mammoth Tusk used for this piece is CERTIFIED 34,690 YEARS OLD (+/- 815 years). All our Woolly Mammoth pieces come with our certificate of authenticity.
We had our mammoth material carbon dated to get an accurate measure of its age. The testing was done for us by GNS Science, a New Zealand Crown Research Institute and New Zealand's leading provider of Earth, geoscience and isotope research - so their assessment of this material is as accurate as is possible using radiocarbon dating technology.
The mammoth tusk we have used has a beautiful distinctive grain.
We provide these with adjustable cords so that you can wear this piece where it suits you best. We have two options available; please use the drop-down menu to make your selection.
