Called MERE ITI (Small Mere) these are carved from unique New Zealand Jade. Every piece is different, a fantastic little icon - the MERE, the Adze.

The Mere is a type of short, broad-bladed weapon in the shape of an enlarged tear drop. These were traditional weapons used for hand to hand fighting - usually made from Whalebone and wood - the jade mere were often carried by Māori Chiefs as a symbol of their position. Today you will often see mere carried by leaders in formal ceremonial occasions.
