NGA TIHI MAUNGA: Mountain Peaks
Carved by Andrew Doughty, this large pendant combines New Zealand jade and bone in a creative, contemporary design. A stylised bone kea sits above a carved pounamu peak, reflective of our Southern Alps. Traditional koru forms are introduced around the Kea, but the overall composition is clean and strong.
NGA TIHI MAUNGA symbolises the relationship between the kea and its alpine environment, and the vulnerability of that connection. It is a bold, uncluttered carving that carries clear meaning without sentimentality.
We will provide a detailed description of this piece, written by the artist, with this pendant.
