PUKU MAHI - Hard Worker
"Various Toki were used as tools, hard workers are respected" - Rueben Tipene
Meet PUKU MAHI, a powerful toki crafted to embody the essence of hard work. Exquisite jade carvings by Reuben Tipene, a master Māori artist and carver, who honors the ancient art while tastefully incorporating his life experiences into his work.
Adorn yourself with the matau and carry the ocean with you everywhere - a perfect piece for those full of wanderlust and adventure!
Carved from New Zealand Marsden Flower Jade (Pounamu)
PUKU MAHI are a pair of toki similar in design but quite distinct when you look at their size, the koru designs carved into the front, and the stone colour and structure.
We think these would make a fantastic gift for a couple - a marvellous wedding or anniversary gift.
The Jade Rueben has used is exquisite! Classic New Zealand flower jade - with a mix of orange and green tones which combined make each piece quite unique. It is this colour variation that adds to the mystery and beauty of these pieces!
Each Toki has Koru designs engraved into their front face - these symbolise fresh beginnings, a new start. The perfect pendants for adventurers who would like to carry a piece of Aotearoa, New Zealand with them on their journey.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE TOKI'S MEANING AND SIGNIFICANCE...
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength - the adze was a key survival tool, used to build, hunt and defend. Traditionally, the toki is worn to provide strength and courage, to assist through life's challenges, and the koru is a symbol of rebirth, growth and new beginnings.
