TEXAS TALES
A lovely medium-sized whale bone Toki that packs a punch the size of Texas! It is carved from a piece of rib bone and exhibits the beautiful textured grain that is typical of whale rib.
The bone is polished to a soft shine on the front - we have teamed this up with our Whiorau cord and a Kalahari binding on the head of the toki. Subtle colours that accentuate the beauty of this wonderful toki.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
