BLÓMI - old Norse for prosperity, blossom, bloom
BIG BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL... the Venus of Willendorf, hand carved in deer antler - this is our interpretation of this ancient figurine.
We have carved a large tactile, lusty and vital pendant - this piece is made to be worn, but also held and handled. This is a wonderful piece!
The original Venus of Willendorf was discovered in Austria and is believed to have been carved around 30,000 BCE. Although there is no definitive understanding of the meaning of the original figurine, the exaggeration of the parts of her body associated with fertility and child-bearing suggest that she may have been associated with fertility rituals.
Our Blómi has rounded, soft curves in the front face and a carved back - you can clearly see the form in the video. Please note that these are handcarved from deer antler, so while the design of each is similar, the material varies in texture and colouring.
